How to Boil the Perfect Egg

In my opinion, the hard boiled egg is under-appreciated. I don’t blame people though when you can do so much with eggs; however, we’re sleeping on the boiled eggs guys. People say they don’t do it because it takes too long, or when they do make them it doesn’t come out the way they want. Well my friends I’m here to help! Here is how to boil an egg with the timings for the perfect consistency you want!

How To Boil the Perfect Egg

Fill a pot of water enough to cover the eggs and bring to a boil. Once the water is at a rolling boil reduce the heat to low.

With a slotted spoon, gently place the eggs into the water. Once the eggs are in, bring the heat back to a boil. We do this so that the eggs don’t crack or bounce in the water when being placed in.

Immediately set a timer for your preferred done-ness:

  • 6-7 Minutes- a runny yolk with a soft white. These ones should be eaten immediately.

  • 8-9 Minutes- the yolk is still soft but firm enough to hold.

  • 10-11 Minutes- hard boiled egg with a lighter yolk and set white. Great for salad.

  • 12-13 Minutes- hard boiled egg with an even lighter yolk- also great on salad or on its own.

Make sure to put eggs in an ice bath directly after boiling to prevent them from overcooking! These eggs can now be stored for up to 5 days so you can prepare breakfast for the week and set your alarm a little later in the morning!
