For most of us in college or university, the dorms are home for eight months of the year. However, most dorms are not equipped with full kitchens. For example, my dorm has a fridge, microwave, and stovetop but no oven and this is more than most universities in the area. As students though we need to eat somewhat healthy in order to stay on top of our studies. So, here are 3 quick and easy meals you can make in your dorm so you don’t have to reach for fast food or go to the cafeteria everyday.
Ham and Cheese Omelette in a Mug

Perfect for a quick breakfast before your morning lecture to get you started for the day! This omelette can be made even quicker by prepping the meat and vegetables ahead of time. You can also make this dairy free by leaving out the cheese and subbing the milk for unflavoured almond milk!
Recipe:
2 eggs
2 tbsp milk
Salt and pepper
1 tbsp ham, diced
1 tbsp cheddar cheese, shredded
Pinch of chives
Optional:
1 tbsp red pepper, diced
1 tbsp mushroom, diced
1 tbsp spinach
Spray microwave-safe mug with cooking spray. Beat eggs, milk, salt, pepper, cheese, and ham in the mug.
Microwave on high for 2 minutes, stirring it halfway, until the eggs are set.
Remove from microwave and sprinkle chives on top.
Let cool for one minute and enjoy!
Grilled Turkey and Swiss Sandwich

Packed full of flavour and still a healthier choice for lunch or dinner! Switch out the swiss for a sharp cheddar or put whatever vegetables you prefer.
Recipe:
2 slices whole wheat or whole grain bread
2 tbsp butter
3 slices of deli turkey
1 slice of swiss
Handful of arugula
4 slices of green apple
1 tbsp of mustard
Heat skillet over medium heat
Spread butter evenly on outside of slices of bread for grilling and mustard on inside of bread slices.
Lay slice of bread butter side down. Put turkey slices, swiss, apple, then arugula on bread followed by the other piece of bread butter side up.
When a golden brown colour forms on bottom of the sandwich (2-5 minutes), flip and let grill for another 2-3 minutes (NOTE: Second side could take less time if skillet continues to heat up).
Cut in half diagonally, and enjoy!
Yogurt and Berry Bowl

This could be a breakfast, desserts, snack, or all of the above! Easy to make and packed full of nutrition, perfect for any time of day. Add some granola for some extra fibre or leave it the way it is!
Recipe:
1 cups of greek yogurt
Honey
Blueberries
Raspberries
Strawberries, sliced
Chocolate chips
Shaved coconut
Mix greek yogurt and honey together in a bowl.
Top with fresh berries, chocolate chips, and coconut.
Enjoy!
